On your way to the Bush Camp you will journey through the Ivanhoe Plain area and Carlton Hill Station (there is approx 35 mins of gravel road en route) to our camp on the banks of the  Ord River shaded by River Red Gums.  This is at the base of “House Roof  Hill” near where the Faraway Downs Homestead of  the movie “AUSTRALIA” was situated.

Then your bus driver becomes your skipper for an afternoon on the pristine Lower Ord River, where you will see abundant salt and freshwater crocodiles, a large variety of bird life, wallabies, and cattle from the station coming down for a drink and sometimes providing the crocs with a feed.

You will also see the ancient basalt rock formations of Terrara Bar, and the beautiful hills that are landmarks of the local area: “House Roof” and “False House Roof Hill”.

Afternoon tea consists of fresh local melons, anzac biscuits, tea and coffee. Here, you may get to experience a spot of fish feeding, see sooty grunters (black bream), archer fish – the ones that spit – and if you’re lucky, the elusive barramundi may come out for a feed.

Then as it begins to get too dark to enjoy the river, your skipper will take you home on the bus. Your return trip to your accommodation takes around 45-60 mins, getting you home around 5.30-6.00 pm.
